The Anderson Publishing Grant was developed in partnership with Chase Westfall, director of the Anderson Gallery, in the fall of 2018. Its objective is to support student editions within the School of the Arts at Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU). The grant supports various student projects, such as traditional bound publications, zines, alternative book forms, serial works, audio/video media, and screen-based publications.
The grant’s promotion is an act of “publishing” and positions the poster as a public wall. A parody of the modern graffiti site, the series evolves by re-writing and covering the previous. James Payne, a former graffiti writer, creates typographic illustrations for each iteration.
