Inspired by Richmond’s architectural histories, I spent two years teaching myself masonry construction as a way to expand my unit-based production methods. This labor came to fruition in the solo exhibition Glass Garden, a site-specific, independent masonry construction effort laying brick and mortar within the space. The one month construction mirrored the following month’s exhibition on view. A dialogue between architectural form, its construction and its material. The exhibition was an experiment of those ‘timelines’ or ‘lifetimes,’ creating an indexical framework in which the work could be viewed; as temporary, permanent or expired.
